What we collect

  • Your email and password, to run your account (password is hashed, never stored in plain text).
  • A username, and optionally a nationality and a home location you choose to add in Settings.
  • Your precise GPS coordinates at the moment you claim a hexagon — this is stored permanently alongside the claim, since the claim's location is the point of it.
  • An approximate place name for each claim, looked up from its coordinates via OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service (your claim's latitude/longitude is sent to them to get that name back).
  • A random id in your browser's local storage, used to remember "your" claims on the map before you're logged in. It isn't sent anywhere beyond this app.
  • Who you follow, and — if you turn it on — a browser push subscription, so we can deliver nearby-activity notifications; removed as soon as you unsubscribe.
  • A record that you viewed another user's profile while logged in, so the Pro Area can show who's looked at your own profile.
  • If you subscribe to Pro or buy credits, a Stripe customer id and a record of the package, amount, and payment reference — your card details go straight to Stripe and never touch our servers.
  • Your credit balance and a history of credits earned or spent — including hex purchases, referral rewards, and daily claim bonuses.
  • Your own referral code, and, if you signed up through someone else's referral link, which account referred you.

What we don't collect

We don't track you across other sites, sell your data, or run advertising. We don't continuously track your location — only the single GPS reading taken at the moment you tap "Claim."

Who can see it

Claimed hexagons, their coordinates, their place names, and the claiming username are public by design — that's how the map and leaderboard work. Who you follow works the same way — it's what powers the Following leaderboard. Your email address, exact home-location search text (if you set one), your list of followers, who's viewed your profile, your credit balance and transaction history, and who referred you (or who you've referred) are private and only visible to you.

Where it's stored

Data is stored with Supabase (Postgres + auth), hosted in the EU. Reverse-geocoding requests go to the public Nominatim/OpenStreetMap API. Map tiles come from CARTO. Pro subscriptions, credit purchases, and payment details are all handled by Stripe. Push notifications are delivered via your browser's push service (e.g. Google or Mozilla). None of these services are paid to use your data beyond providing the app.

Your choices

You can edit your username, nationality, home location, email, password, and avatar any time in Settings, where you can also turn nearby-activity notifications and push on or off, and unfollow anyone you follow. You can delete your account there too — this removes your profile and login, though hexagons you've claimed remain claimed (see the Terms of Service for why).
